1st July 2008

Fence Records is proud to announce that the next Fence Club event will be taking place at The Caves in Edinburgh, on Wednesday 17th September - and will be headlined by JAMES YORKSTON & THE ATHLETES!

This Fence Club show will be the main Scottish show in support of his new album,  When The Haar Rolls, on Domino Records, which will be released that month.

We also have a non-Fence support act lined-up that is sooo sooooo special, we're not allowed to announce him yet! Rest assured, this is one show you will NOT WANT TO MISS!

Rozi Plain and The Pictish Trail will open the night with a combined set ... and there is more to be announced.

Tickets will go on sale this Friday - 3rd July - from the Fence webshop, at the special price of £10. This will go up to £12 in a few weeks time - so make sure you buy early!

PICTISH TRAIL & ROZI PLAIN TOUR

As if that was not enough excitement for one day, we can also now announce details of a very special tour - taking place throughout September and October.

The Pictish Trail is heading out on the road - with his guitar and keyboard in tow - accompanied by fellow-Fencer Rozi Plain, in support of their respective new albums, Secret Soundz Vol. 1, and Inside Over Here.

The dates in September are going to be acoustic affairs, in very intimate venues - with lots of chat (but not from the audience, hopefully). And the October dates look set to be full-band shows in stadiums - with fireworks during the interval. Information on how to book tickets will be posted soon - until then check the gigs page for more info.

10th September - Betsey Trotwood, LONDON
11th September - Gander On The Green, BOURNEMOUTH
12th September - South Street Arts Centre, READING
14th September - The Railway, WINCHESTER
17th September - Fence Club # 6, The Caves, EDINBURGH
25th September - The Tunnels, ABERDEEN
26th September - Captain’s Rest, GLASGOW
3rd October - The Legion, LONDON
5th October - The Cube, BRISTOL

Christian Ward - he who did the Secret Soundz artwork - has knocked up a special poster for us! Click the image below to see a proper sized version. There's a few dates still to be added ... and I've spelt 'Betsey' incorrectly ... but it's nice to look at! Mark the dates in your diary!

20th June 2008

KING CREOSOTE is playing two intimate shows in Glasgow next week - on Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th June - as part of the West End Festival.  Both shows are taking place at the Oran Mor, (which is located at the top of Byres Road, G12 8QX) - and KC informs me that there will be A DIFFERENT SET FOR EACH SHOW.   Support comes from two different Fence acts - The Red Well on Tuesday, and The Pictish Trail on Wednesday.

We've got some pairs of tickets to give-away for both shows ... all we need is your all-time BAD JOKES.   Every winner will receive 2 free tickets.

To be in with a chance of winning, send an email to FENCECLUB@HOTMAIL.COM, stating which day you'd like tickets for in the subject line (TUESDAY or WEDNESDAY).  The email must contain the worst joke you know.  Seriously, we want terrible gags, rubbish yarns, and atrocious zingers.  The worst you can think of - the cornier the better.

The competition closes at 12 noon on Monday.  Winners will be notified by email on Monday afternoon - and will be able to collect their tickets on the door of the venue.

(er ... the competition isn't a bad joke, by the way ... it's real ... honest ...)

If you've already got tickets, enter the competition anyway - and bring a few pals!

Alternatively, if you're all out of bad gags, and would like to just buy tickets, click the link below ...

16th June 2008

* LIVE - KC, PT, The Red Well, OTF, Kid Canaveral and more do the rounds ...
* ALSO - new things going up in the Fence webshop next Monday (23rd June) ...

There's a fair few live shows taking place in Scotland over the next wee while. Would you like me to tell you about these shows?

Well, I'm going to anyway ...

FRIDAY 20
TH JUNE:
Our favourite pogo-pop pals Kid Canaveral will be celebrating the launch of their latest 7" single, 'Couldn't Dance', at a special party at Henry's Cellar Bar in Edinburgh. As well as performing a live set of their own, the Kids will be playing host to fellow indie starlets Come On Gang!, and acoustic dreamer Jona Rhona (formerly Jo Foster). The Pictish Trail and Kwaing Creasite will be DJing for a bit, but mostly dancing like prats. Bring a camera, and capture their foul shapes. Only £5 to get in ...

SATURDAY 21ST JUNE: There's a bit of a selection on the 21st ... you can either kick back in Edinburgh's serene Botanic Gardens, with a cup of green tea, and witness FOUND performing a live collaboration with a Shanghai Jazz band in the Temperate Palmhouse, a Thai bamboo orchestra, and traditional Chinese dancers performing in a specially commissioned bamboo sculpture garden, all for free ... OR ... you can wear your finest cardigan/beret combination and catch Northern Alliance front-man Doug Johnstone read excerpts from his latest novel, The Ossians (published by Penguin), and perform some acoustic renditions of the fictional band's greatest hits (again for free) ... OR ... you can head up to Dalwhinnie's Loch Stock festival, and experience OnTheFly's one-man electronic live wonder!

SUNDAY 22ND JUNE: Back in 1994, Kenny Anderson (with his band the Skhuobie Dubh Orchestra) headlined a show at the opening night of The Lemon Tree - Aberdeen's finest venue. Financial difficulties meant the venue had to close at the end of 2007 ... but now it's back, and it seems only fitting that King Creosote (with full live band) will play its re-opening! Support comes courtesy of The Pictish Trail. Copies of their respective albums, They Flock Like Vulcans To See Old Jupiter Eyes On His Home Craters, and Secret Soundz Vol.1, will be available for sale at the show ...

TUESDAY 24TH & WEDNESDAY 25TH JUNE:
King Creosote saunters down to Glasgow for two nights at the Oran Mor, as part of the West End Festival - with support from The Red Well (fresh from mixing their debut album) on the 24th, and the The Pictish Trail on the 25th. I've been told KC's set will be different each night ...

SUNDAY 29TH JUNE: The Pictish Trail can't get enough of Glasgow at the moment. They're so friendly over there. So, he's chuffed to have been asked to play at the Hey! You! Get Off My Pavement! Festival, being held just outside Mono (Kings Court, 103 Kings Street). The line-up looks pretty incredible - Camera Obscura, Stevie Jackson, School Of Language, John B McKenna ... and tons more. Again, as with all PT gigs over the summer, copies of Secret Soundz Vol.1 will be available for sale.

There'll be some new things up in the webshop next Monday (23rd June) - including the latest Secret 7" from Player Piano and Come In Tokyo, the Kid Canaveral 'Couldn't Dance' 7", and some James Yorkston 7" singles from the back catalogue too ...
